At Brickpoint, we understand how important it is to take care of your brick. If you take proper care of your brick, you are not only improving the appearance of your property, but also adding value to it. We offer a range of services in this direction which includes brickwork, chimney stacks, and building retaining brick.
Pointing Brick Walls
Pointing refers to the outer section of a mortar joint that beds one brick on another. If properly done, it ensures a longer life, whilst giving that perfect appearance to your property. At Brickpoint, we have the knowledge of both lime based and cement based pointing. Many of our clients prefer to go for lime-based since cement is too hard and therefore may damage the bricks when removed during re-pointing.
This is one of our specialties. We have the knowledge to do it in the most
effective manner. Before applying the mortar, we spray water on the
brickwork with a hosepipe to clean off the dust from the joints. This
also helps prevent the mortar from drying too quickly, thus enabling it
to bond effectively without cracking. We then prepare a mortar mix. The
ideal mix is made of 6 parts sand, 1 part cement and 1 part lime. If
you want to avoid the use of cement, we make the mortar mix using 3
parts of sand and 1 part of lime. We mix it thoroughly to ensure that
all the air is removed. The mortar is applied first to the
perpendicular joints followed by the horizontal ones. It is also
important to smoothen out the mortar applied and to then cut off the
excess mortar from the surface. During re-pointing, we use
'scutch', a special spiked chisel to scrape up the old cement based
pointing to a certain preferable depth to ensure that bricks are not
damaged in the process.
Pointing Chimneys Stacks
Chimney stacks are usually exposed to extensive weathering. If neglected chimney masonry can become unstable and this may lead to their replacement. We give special emphasis whilst chimney stacks to ensure they remain in a good condition for many years. We use sand, cement and lime mixed mortar for chimney stacks. We also carry out the task of re-pointing chimney stacks in old as well as new properties, if required.Building Retaining Brick Walls
Our team of professionals is trained in constructing this. Retaining walls are built to prevent down-slope movement or erosion of soil or rock from the building or any other structure, thus providing support for vertical or near-vertical grade changes. At Brickpoint, we take every effort to ensure proper design and installation so that we can guarantee stability of your property against the following:- Sliding
- Excessive foundation pressure and water uplift, and Overturning
Although, we mainly use bricks for constructing retaining, we also use other materials like stone, concrete, steel, vinyl, and timber if required. We have necessary expertise in constructing all kinds of retaining walls. In the case of gravity retaining walls, we use stone and concrete to resist pressure from behind. The structure is leaned back to improve stability. You can choose from a wide variety of earth tone colours in stones.
